Getting a good result

Use this only for one specific problem

The captions match at the start and slip steadily further out, reaching several seconds by the end of a film. That happens when a film made at 24 frames a second is sped up to 25 for European television, or slowed back down, and the captions came from the other version.

When not to use it

If the captions are off by the same amount from start to end, nothing was sped up: use the timing shifter. If you exported your own video at a new frame rate, its length did not change, and the captions still fit. Applying this tool to a file that does not need it will break good timing.

The arithmetic

Going from 23.976 to 25 frames a second multiplies every time by 23.976 ÷ 25, about 0.959. A caption at 01:00:00 moves to 00:57:32.

Can I use other rates?

Yes. Choose Other frame rates and type both.

The drift is not constant. What now?
