    Getting a good result

Why a file will not play or upload

The file name only tells you the container. What decides whether a phone, an editor or a platform accepts the file is the codec inside. The table shows it, and a plain line underneath says what that means: for example, that HEVC video will not open on an older Windows PC, or that a variable frame rate can make sound drift in an editor.

What your file says about you

Phones can write the recording date, the device model and sometimes the GPS position into a video. Anyone who receives the original file can read them. The viewer lists every tag so you can check before sharing. Uploading to most social platforms strips these tags; sending the file directly does not.

    The numbers that matter

Resolution and frame rate must match what an editing project or a platform expects. Bitrate multiplied by length is the file size, and tells you how hard the video was compressed. Pixel format yuv420p is the one every player supports.

    00:40Questions

    Video metadata viewer: common questions

    Is my file stored?

No. It is read with ffprobe, a standard inspection tool, and deleted at once. Only the list of facts comes back to this page.

Can it remove the location and device tags?

Not this tool. Converting the file with the MP4 converter writes a new file without the original's tags.

What does variable frame rate mean?

The time between frames is not constant. It is normal for phone and screen recordings and plays fine, but some editors lose sync with it. The frame rate converter makes it constant.

    Which files can it read?

The common video and audio containers and PNG, JPEG and WebP images.

Editing a talk, a podcast or an interview?

Upload the raw recording. Studio cuts the ums, retakes and long pauses, adds captions and makes short clips. 30 free minutes, no card.
