Keeping a GIF small
GIF is a format from 1987. It stores at most 256 colors per frame and compresses poorly, so size grows fast: doubling the width roughly quadruples the file, and doubling the frame rate doubles it. To shrink a GIF, shorten it first, then narrow it, then lower the frame rate. Chat apps and forums often cap the size of a GIF, so check the limit where you plan to post it.
