How to prepare podcast interview questions

  1. Name the guest and what they are known forA line or two from their bio or their last project.
  2. Give the episode topic and who listensThe listener decides how basic or advanced the questions should be.
  3. Plan the questionsTen questions in three groups: two to open, six for the main part, two to close. Each has a follow-up for a short answer.

Getting a good result

An order that helps the guest

The opening questions are easy to answer and let the guest settle. The main questions go deeper into the topic one step at a time. The closing questions look forward. A guest who is comfortable by question three gives better answers to question six.

Open questions and follow-ups

Every question is written so it cannot be answered with yes or no. The follow-up is there for when an answer stops short: "What did that look like in practice?" gets the story that the first answer skipped.

A plan, not a script

Use the list to prepare, then listen. The best question in most interviews is the one that picks up something the guest just said.

Podcast question generator: common questions

Does it research my guest?

No. It works only from what you type, so it cannot get a fact about them wrong. Add anything you want questions about.

Can I get more than ten questions?

Run it again with a narrower topic for a second set.

Should I send the questions to my guest beforehand?

Sending the topics, without the exact wording, lets a guest prepare without rehearsing answers.

Turn the draft into a finished video.

Upload the raw recording. Studio cuts the ums, retakes and long pauses, adds captions and makes short clips. 30 free minutes, no card.
