    2. Pick a strengthStart with Medium. Light is for quiet hiss, Strong for a loud fan.
    3. Reduce noiseThe tool finds the quietest half second in the recording, treats that as the noise, and takes it out of the whole file.
    4. CompareSwitch between the original and the result on headphones, and read how many decibels quieter the pauses are.

    Getting a good result

What it removes and what it cannot

It works on steady noise that sounds the same from start to end: microphone hiss, computer fans, air conditioning, mains hum. It cannot remove sounds that change: a dog, traffic passing, a keyboard, other people talking, or the echo of a bare room. Those overlap the voice, and taking them out takes the voice with them.

    Listen for the side effect

Noise reduction always removes a little of the voice too. Pushed too far, speech turns hollow or watery, which listeners find more tiring than gentle hiss. If you hear that, go down one strength. A recording with a trace of noise and a natural voice is the better result.

    The rumble switch

Also cut low rumble removes everything under 80 Hz, where desk bumps, footsteps and wind live and voices do not. Leave it on for speech. Turn it off for music with bass.

    00:40Questions

    Audio noise reducer: common questions

    Why was almost nothing removed?

Either the recording is already clean, or the noise is not steady. This method needs a moment when only the noise is present to learn what it sounds like.

    Can it remove echo?

No. Echo is the voice itself arriving late off the walls. Soft furnishings and a closer microphone fix it at the source.

Should I reduce noise before or after normalizing?

Before. Raising the loudness raises the noise with it.

    Does it use AI?

No. It is a spectral noise filter: it measures the noise in the quietest moment and subtracts that from every moment. The result is predictable, and the before and after are measured and shown.
