    00:35Worth knowing

    Getting a good result

    Gap or crossfade

Between spoken segments, such as an intro and an interview, a half-second gap sounds natural. Between pieces of music, a crossfade of one to two seconds hides the join. Leave both at zero to butt the files together, which suits parts of one continuous recording.

    Different formats and rates

Files recorded on different devices differ in sample rate and channels. They are all converted to 48 kHz stereo before joining, so the pitch and speed of each stay correct.

    Level them first

If one part is louder than another, the join will be obvious. Run each through the loudness normalizer at the same target first, then join.

    00:40Questions

    Audio joiner: common questions

How many files can I join?

From 2 to 12, up to 100 MB together and 60 minutes each.

Can I join MP3 and WAV together?

Yes. Any mix of the accepted formats.

    Is quality lost?

WAV and FLAC results lose nothing. An MP3, M4A or OGG result is encoded once, at the bitrate you choose.

Can I trim a file before joining?

Trim it first with the audio trimmer, then add the trimmed file here.

    Recording a video podcast?
