    How to change the speed of a video

    Getting a good result

    Voices that still sound human

    Speeding up a recording normally raises the pitch, which is the chipmunk effect. This tool changes tempo without changing pitch, so a voice at 1.5× sounds like the same person talking faster. Past about 2× speech becomes hard to follow; for a timelapse, remove the sound.

    Slow motion and its limit

    Slowing a 30-frames-a-second video to half speed leaves 15 real frames in each second, and movement looks stepped. Smooth slow motion needs footage shot at a high frame rate: a 120 fps recording slowed to a quarter still shows 30 frames a second.

    Faster is not the same as tighter

    If the goal is a shorter video, speed is the blunt tool: everything rushes, including the parts that were fine. Cutting the pauses and repeated takes shortens a recording while the speaker keeps their own pace.

    How long can the result be?

    Up to 5 minutes. A 2-minute clip slowed to 0.25× would be 8 minutes, so use a shorter clip for strong slow motion.

    Does it change the frame rate?

    No. The result keeps your video's frame rate, up to 60 frames a second.

    Can I speed up only one part?

    Split the video, change the speed of that part, then join the pieces again.
