  • Free, no account
  • No draft saved by Studio

(TXT, SRT or VTT). It is read in your browser and placed in the box above.

Your brief is sent to the configured AI service to write the draft. Studio does not save it; provider retention follows that service’s policy.

How to make YouTube chapters from a transcript

  1. Paste a transcript with timestamps, or open an SRT or VTT fileLines that start with a time, such as 00:42, or a caption file. The free <a href="/tools/transcribe-audio">transcriber</a> makes one.
  2. Press Make chaptersThe tool picks where each new subject begins and names it.
  3. Copy the list into your descriptionEach line is a time and a title, in the form YouTube reads.

Getting a good result

YouTube's three rules, checked for you

YouTube turns a list of timestamps in a description into chapters only if the first one is 00:00, there are at least three in ascending order, and each chapter is at least 10 seconds long. The tool sets the first chapter to 00:00, leaves out any chapter that would be shorter than 10 seconds, and refuses to give you a list of fewer than three.

No invented times

The AI model is shown your transcript as numbered lines and may only answer with line numbers. The timestamps are then copied from your transcript by ordinary code. A chapter cannot point to a moment that is not in your file.

Titles a viewer would look for

Chapter titles are two to six words naming what happens, such as "Fixing room echo". Edit any that do not match how you would say it.

00:40Questions

Video chapter generator: common questions

Why did it say my transcript has no timestamps?

Chapters need times. Paste a transcript whose lines begin with a time, or open the SRT or VTT file for the video.

How many chapters will I get?

Roughly one for every minute or so on a short video, up to twelve on a long one.

Where do the chapters go?

In the video's description on YouTube, one per line, starting with 00:00.

Can I change the titles?

Yes. Edit them in the description. Keep each time at the start of its line, and keep the first line at 00:00.

Turn the draft into a finished video.
